Around Town

We are within 25 minutes walking distance of central Truro; Truro is a flourishing city, with 23,000 inhabitants. There are plenty of cafés, restaurants and a piazza where there are regular markets and an indoor market. Waterstones is a well-stocked bookstore, with sofas and a café where you can peruse the books you may wish to buy.
Truro has a good range of shops, a museum, a cinema and a theatre. The heart of Truro is the beautiful cathedral, built with the former tin mining wealth of Cornwall.

Falmouth is about half an hour away. Here are beaches, shops, and the prestigious National Maritime Museum. There is also an "art house" cinema, where films rather different from the mainstream ones are shown. If there are good ones during your stay, we will take you. St. Ives has the celebrated Tate Gallery. This intriguing town with several beaches is best reached by train; the line runs along the coastline, and gives a dramatic entrance when the train emerges from the tunnel.

There are many National Trust and English Heritage properties around Cornwall.

Along with coastal walks, beaches and fishing villages, there are endless places to explore; traditional Cornish cream teas and pasties to taste, and there are walks on Rough Tor and Brown Willy, the highest points in Cornwall with an amazing panorama.

There are walks close to the house, in particular to the sleepy riverside hamlet of St. Clements with thatched roofs and lovely old church. Also, there is a nearby walk to the Idless Valley and Woods, where Gloria's paternal family lived.
